English and Dutch Rush:
Where possible I use English rush gathered from a river in Suffolk in summer, dried for several weeks before soaking once more and hand-twisting to produce coils that are sage green when fresh and dry to a golden straw hue. I enjoy breathing new life into a chair that has already had a history of its own. A new rush seat is an investment, but should last 50 years or more. The ultimate sustainable craft.
Contact me if you have an old chair, stool or bench in need of renewing. Prices range from £120-240 on average (or 70p/square inch).
Danish Papercord:
Simple. Elegant. Stylish.
Re-seat your 1960’s classic chair using utilitarian (and jolly comfy) twisted papercord. Most chairs will cost around £125 to re-seat in the traditional way using ‘L’ shaped nails. Images below.
